Recent news regarding the outstanding limestone wood and old quarry area at Craig y Dderwyddion is that McAlpines ARE intending to quarry the area, which will totally destroy this site of great botanical interest. The Carboniferous Limestone outcrop has, in the opinion of many of us, suffered enough destruction by quarrying concerns and it is important that areas are set aside before this unique outcrop is destroyed forever. The quarrying companies should make efforts to investigate the possibility of using other rock types for use as road chippings etc, for our precious little limestone with its incomparable flora (and indeed fauna, with the very rare Greater Horseshoe Bats) is being blasted away to destruction.

Once more, we are grateful to Dr Nigel Stringer & Dic Davies for their regular article on Mosses and Liverworts, and in bringing attention to the above area.
